Out of duck food!

You're right. I do live in a very dry, temperate area. I'm sure humidity would kill stored feed.

The dry heat does too. My enclosed porch was where we WERE storing it. I measured the heat during the day 120+ degrees. After 3 weeks the feed smelled rancid. So we like to buy FR from TS because it's dry and cool inside. Some of the other feed stores are still 90+ degrees during the day. It never smells as fresh as when we get it from TS. Unfortunately the one super hot feed store is the only place we can buy duck food. :| They get new stuff in monthly now- which helps but still awfully hot in there! I have a teeny tiny space carved out in my garage that will fit 3 bags of feed right now. It stays about 80 degrees during the day (and in total darkness). The best I can do for now. Beats 120+ on my sunny back porch!

I purchased two grey Sebastopol geese from you last month. You mentioned that you had wormed them shortly before I bought them. What do you use and how is it administered?

I purchased waterfowl feed for my ducks and geese that floats on the water. They love it and they follow me to the pond when they see me coming. The two grey ones I purchased don't join the others. They'll go into the chicken aviary and eat and drink there, but they don't go into the pond together. Will they eventually become one flock? I know during breeding season I'll need to separate them, but I'm surprised they don't mingle with my two white ones.

Hey Nancy, they at new and know each other so are more comfortable as two than a flock. By October if not sooner they should adjust and become 1 group. Your white gander will be the one to allow or not allow them to be a group since he is older.

Ivermectin was the dewormer, placed topically on their back on the skin between the wings. Having a fecal done is always best to make sure 1 they don't need the medication, and two what type they have so you know if Iver,ect in or Panacur would be a better choice.

collect poop from the geese place in a baggy and take to your vet. The OP has been online a number of times since this thread developed, but, I get a feeling she will not be responding to it, even if she is reading it.

From her history of posting, the nearest feed store is 45 minutes away; from that same research, it suggests that she is a minor and dependent on being driven that milage (or, harnessing an online delivery of feed).

It is somewhat confusing because when her duckling was just a few weeks old, she was given advice on duck "treats" and even thanked a member because she had printed off a manual of treats to keep her duckling happy

yet still felt a need to post a thread asking for advice (which she clearly ignorned) when her feed ran out.

I am not concerned about her or her posting history/issuses; I am concerned about a drake who is being used as an experiment at the (potential) cost to his health and well being. It is so unnecessary

Sadly this is not the first young girl to do this in the past couple months. I even PM'd a girl several weeks ago. She usually ignores advice for a while. I think it's normal for kids to have a disconnect with animals and their care- but that is where we as parents come in and oversee to that care. If left to their own devices unchecked- my boys lizards would be starving as I have to buy the crickets and worms for them and ultimately - I am responsible for their care even if the animal is 'theirs'. So I wonder what the parents are doing, thinking, planning etc...
