Out of food, till this evening, will this work?

Ok, I ran out of food last night, and won't be able to get to the feed store until after 3. If I fix oatmeal, rice, mix in flax seed, and bananas, should that be ok until then? They are over 3 weeks old.

I wouldnt give them the rice. the rice will swell and might kill them.

Never give them uncooked rice, that will kill them. I'm not sure about cooked rice either, I would just leave out the rice. Also, I would cook the oatmeal.

It's all cooked, I'd never give them anything like that raw.

I'm pretty sure cooked rice is okay. It doesn't give them much nutrition though.

Hi! If you have eggs on hand, scrambled or boiled egg (mashed) mixed with oatmeal / rice will get them by til you can get to the feed store.
Or just the cooked oatmeal and/or rice if you don't.
(I've never fed chicks flax seed or banana so I can't comment on those).

Raw (uncooked rice) WILL NOT kill birds, that's an urban myth.

My chickens love raw rice, I've read lots of other people feeding it as a treat as well.

What the original poster suggests sounds like a sensible solution to me, as long as it really IS just for one day.

Yes, it's just for this morning. My hubby will be home shortly after 3 and I can get the feed. It's just too hard to take a 2 and 3 year old into the feed store, and try to manage a 50 lb bag.

I feed mine cooked rice. I mix in pieces of broc, carrots, potatoes, corn. They love it and have never had a problem. Lots of times that is their meal.

It will make some happy chickies!
