Maisie is 6 wks approx. End of the month we tend to run out of everything until the 5th of every month when I can go shopping again. I THOUGHT I had enough food for ONE chick but FAILED to remember that lil miss ZOOMIE spills her food no matter the type of feeder I get her. so of course she spilled a good portion. I have salvaged what I could but to no avail. I am OUT. so far I have made hard boiled eggs mixed with oatmeal and fed that to her. I have also given her parakeet zupreem fruit pellets. Is this ok until I can go shopping again?

I don't know about the fruit pellets, but eggs and a little oatmeal should be fine for a few days, plus a little chick grit. Limited amounts of fruits/veggies would be okay, too. Have you tried serving her feed as a wet mash? They usually love it, and (might) waste a little less that way. Just water it down, let it soak for a minute or two, then serve; might have to play with the amount of water to get it the way she likes.

Thanks all. I did give her some scrambled eggs and oatmeal. did not know they could give the stink eye. LOL. She is now 9 weeks old and thinks she's a cat.

FYI, the typical large egg weighs about 58 grams, 63 in the shell. Its about 11% protein (low), 8% fat (high), 4.5% calcium (fine for active layers, very high for everyone else) if you feed the shell, and is moderately low on all the usual vitamins and minerals that get tracked. A serving of enriched oatmeal (100g dry weight) is around 16% protein (bare minimum), again high in fat (7%), and about 11% fiber, and pretty decent on vitamins.

So your bird will get by, but you are low on protein, and high on fats. Add 2 TBSP (about 44 grams) of low fat (or better, no fat) plain greek yogurt to get the protein up, and leave the eggshell out.

Around 450 grams per pound, you want to feed, typically, around 1/4# of feed per day, s its one 100g pack (3.5 oz) plain dry enriched oatmeal, 1 medium egg, no shell, 2 Tbsps no fat greek yogurt. Split between two days. Add water as needed to make a mass she doesn't make a mess with.

Never fails. Today we are grocery shopping and I ran out of food just this morning. Siiiigh how much can ONE chicken eat? She is about 9 weeks now and still on chick starter. Only on these days(once a month) is she macking out out fruit pellets. Siiiigh.
