I've got 9 chicks we purchased this past Monday from TSC and found out a couple days ago we have to go out of town at least overnight, possibly two nights around March 11th. The trip can't be avoided as it's a dr appointment for my daughter and it's about 7 hours away in Philadelphia. What is our best course of action for our chicks? We don't have a reliable choice of someone to stop in and check on them. We could possibly transport them to my mother in law's house, though I know it's asking a lot of her, plus I don't want to stress the chicks out. We already lost one to stress. She also a schizo dog that concerns me. And the only other option is filling up the food and water and hoping for the best. I hate not having someone lay eyes on them and making sure all is well in the brooder at least once throughout the day, though. Does anyone do a lot of traveling? What's your solution when you have to be away?

I would definitely get your MIL to watch them at her house. Make sure the heat lamp is very very secure to make her feel good about having them visit. I would not leave baby chicks that little for two days. They get shavings in the water so they can't drink, and run out of food (kicking it into the bedding and can't find it).
