I built a small 2'x8' outdoor brooder for my broody hens but I haven't had any hens go broody this year.
Would this work for raising baby chicks in warm weather if I make sure to

put boards /tarps around it and put a light bulb in it?

The big difference in my 3' x 6' brooder is that mine is in the coop so rain is not an issue. Also, how hot will it get in the sun? You don't want to cook them. Make sure the electricity is safe. If you can handle those, put the heat in one end so they can go to the far end if they need to cool off.

If weather is warm you really don't want to tarp it up like that. I positioned mine so it was protected by the larger coop from winds, and during light rain I left it open. In heavier rain I tarped over it but never covered up any of the sides.

I moved it under a tree.
It's in the shade now.
