I am getting a new coop kit and will have to finish it myself. What would you all recommend for a finish product. I want to do a natural stain to keep the look of wood. Brand? Type?
Thanks,
Steve

I originally used a Home Depot/Behr brand waterproofing stain for the exterior of my coop. It was not cheap - $35ish for the gallon. It only lasted one winter before peeling up. I don't think your winters are quite as brutal as mine, but still. Something to keep in mind.

Now I go old school and simply paint on a good coat of 50/50 linseed oil/mineral spirits. Let it sit for 15 minutes and wipe down any excess. It soaks into the wood (vs. most "water seals" which sit ON TOP of the wood), gives it a clear/natural sheen, beads up the water and is very inexpensive. I've been using this method on my teak patio furniture for 15 years - recoating in the late spring. It will stain your clothes and kill your grass, so be tidy.
