Outdoor grow-out pen?

I was wondering what everyone uses for a grow-out pen for their birds that are two young to be with adults and too old to be in brooder? Pictures are appreciated.

I don't have any pics, but when my birds where at that age, I fenced off a 6x16 area inside my pen with 4' chicken wire to keep them in. Then they learned that they could fly, and they flew over into the big pen and didn't understand how to fly back over, so I made openings in their pen that they could fit through but the larger birds couldn't.

This worked until they stayed in the larger pen more than the smaller pen, so I just removed their temporary pen and all is well.

Now I'm back in the same boat again, I have some White Leggers that are about 12 weeks old and I have them in a temp. pen inside of the coop, but I will have to move them soon.

Keep in mind that when you introduce new birds to your flock, they are going to go through their pecking order again.

We used a chicken tractor as a grow-out pen, too. We moved them to the big coop later in the year, so they'd be ready for winter.

I use an old pickup bed with a camper shell on it. I fastened a roost in there across the wheel hubs. It works great! As they get older, I open it and let them free range with the flock and then I move them over into the main coop. I have never had any introduction problems.

I have two pens that are 3' x 8' long and two feet off the floor that I use.

I had to come up with something quick and cheap for my one chick that needed to go outside. I attached a run to the back of my coop and butted up the shelter (wouldn't call it a coop) to the back as well. 8ftx8ft run, 4ftx4ft shelter. It's still a bit cold out so I moved my silkies and mille fluer hen out of the big coop and in with my chick. I don't have a huge predator problem, knock on wood, so i used 4ft chicken wire i had lying around. It's not pretty but it's functional.

I forgot that I used a dog kennel and a large dog house that was built for multiple dogs, to grow out some chickens that were destined to be eaten, too.
