outhouse

They are so good looking.. but tell me, do you get your materials free? How can you get paid for your talent and labor charging less than what the materials will cost you?
any body tried to buy a board lately? whew! Im thinking of digging a hole in the ground for my girls. lining it with rocks. Only way I can think of to give them protection and not cost me a fortune.

Great idea! I like how you think!

I say go for it, but it would be a bit hard to expand in an outhouse. You'd probably only be able to keep a few birds.

I'd say keep thinking along the same lines. If this give you any ideas, I once made plans to turn my back porch into a chicken coop. It even was designed so you could open a window and pick the eggs out of the nestbox.

Open your mind!

Hi again;

Yes, I will build them wider and deeper to accomodate more chickens with the same basic shape and style, the sloped roof, the window, the classic moon in the door, and flower boxes under the windows. I can't wait to get started making them and delivering them to the great people I help serve.

Cathy, do you think you'll want to be able to close the window with something like shutters on the outside, since you said you don't want any glass?

When I am able to place my order (which I hope to do, soon, with tax return) I will not want shutters. We built a slider on my current coop window. I put hardware cloth across the window, framed that in from the inside and put a Plexiglas slider on the outside. We did it kind of like this one < https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=66959> , but our glass is on the outside with the glass attached to the 4th side of the window" frame", which also serves as a handle for sliding the glass in and out.
