We have 6, 3 week olds(BO&SLW) in a rubbermaid container in our basement. Now that they are bigger(and bad!) I'd like to move them outside, with their heat lamp of course.

I have med sized A-frame coop and run. I can close off the run part and hang their light in the coop. When the weather is warm enough I can open the run and they can get some sunshine. I'm not worried about tempature, drafts or security, I just won't be right there to listen to their every squeak and chirp and check on them 5 thouand times a day! Will this be ok? I feel like a nervous mother sending her babies off to school for the first time!

mine are 3 weeks old, they went in the main coop with the other chickens on saturday, they are in their brooder with a lid (old chain link fence piece) and a heat lamp, they love it, they sunbathe and drive the other chickens nuts.

Have you separated them from the other chickens, or are they mingling already?

I closed my coop up, put in a brooder light, and moved my RIRs out into the coop in early February without any problem. I waited until they were completely feathered before I let them into the run, and that meant food and water in the coop, but it worked well...

I brood in my chicken tractor as early as 2 weeks old!!! Just keep the lamp on in their sleeping quarters, and they will go under it when they need to.
