OVA-Easy Cabinet Vs. GQF Sportsman

HappyHatch'en :

Hello Frank, I thought it was Steve....how about hooking up a making 100 incubators? Solid wood, Sandwiched Plywood...make what we consider the ideal bator?
Happy Hatch'en

I have thought about that .... I am considering building the *ideal* small incubator.

Of course, it would only be *my* ideal, and would not be built down to a price.

OTOH, I can see building a 40 egg incubator for under $300 retail.

My biggest concern is that I would want full auto-humidity control, and that's not so easy to manage on a small scale.

The incubator in my sig was very easy, and the last two hatches have been 100%, so maybe I think too much

It's gonna have to wait until I get this Wood Stove installed tho.

Ok, so I have a friend who is determined to build a bator just as good as my dickey, but WAY cheaper he says. (He and my husband are in constant competition) so he is asking me how, b/c he is a dunce. Plywood/ foam sandwhich, with laminate on the inside, is that the way to go for optimum insulation?

That is exactly how I constructed this one. It's probably a little bigger than a Sportsman though. I used really expensive "high end" electronic guts, and could have saved a few bucks. This cost me around 350 bucks when all was said and done.

That will be fine.

He will have a problem with the auto-turner.

There are three ways to fix this:

He add cleats to the sides to take the GQF auto-turners .... three of them.

He could buy the Sportsman auto-turn set up as a spare part, and fit it.

He could design his own.

The first two would cost about the same, but #2 is neater. The third option will be difficult to keep cheap as there are no economies of scale.

I'd be interested to hear how he deals with that.

I will relay this info. I will be interested to see how he deals with the whole thing, but he may surprise me.

I'll spot him the $150.00 and if he goes over........I too would be interested in his progress...you can purchase the complete turning mechanism with motor and timer for $116.00 (no trays), with that cost, it doesn't give you much money for the remain parts.

One that I built , I built a box within a box with 2" of space all around.. then I got several cans of Great Stuff and drilled a bunch of holes squirted it full..

I wish your friend luck. $150.oo with automatic turner? Can probably be done if he is a super scavenger..

The only thing holding me back from building a large cabinet style is I do not know how to make the auto turner like the sportsman..

the racks are not a problem, it is the motors and switching,,,,,, ,,,

Make what you can, out source the rest.

Perfectly normal. I'd buy the turning mech.

You still getter a better incubator, cheaper.

I agree with twigg...at times...keep in-house what you can control and feel comfortable doing professionally...out source the whatevers until you figure that out....most of today's consumers want an incubator that They Set and Forget...keep it simple stupid (kiss.... old sales quote) Twigg if I spot you stove money, how quick can we start....I believe there are a few of the people responding that collectively we can solve this puzzle...I too, have an electronic genius as a friend and another friend who has his own junk yard and fools with hot-rods....no engineers but we are working on this opportunity in our spare time....sometimes it's the journey that sparks the fire, after we solve it the fire dies down.
I would like to manufacture a wood incubator, smaller than GQF Sport but bigger than a styro-box ...MY WISH IS......It would have the following: ......1.) 2 tray 1 Hatch Cabinet Incubator 2.) Made out of 2" Redwood or Cedar 3.) Inside would have galvanized floor with three inch lip for easy cleaning 4.) 8" Electric Fan with circulating corner defuser 5.) 250 Watt Electric Heat Element 5a.) 2 Wafer's for the Thermostat...to keep cost down 5a.) Electronic Proportional Temperature Control System...would be my preference to control heat with 1 wafer for back up 6.) Motor, Timer to turn 2 trays 6a.) turning trays by hand...have a steel rod attached to the two trays that you would pull up/lock, push down-lock 7.) egg saddles for quail, pheasant, chickens 7.) Humidity Control System 8.) Large readable Temp & Humidity gauges LED readout outside of unit 9.) All electronics, wire, fan would be waterproof....to aid in cleaning unit. 10.) Full 1/4" clear plex inner door 11.) Solid Wood outdoor with viewing window 12.) Small light inside on/off switch....to aid in seeing inside.
Sorry for the length of this, but this is what I'm thinking of putting into production....putting the figures together to see if it can be done is the challenge.....Retail @ $350 -$425
'Em I dreaming....why not
