Ovary Cysts, Compacted Eggs, or... ?

Recently I had a hen with a swollen abdomen. Today I slaughtered her, as she's been suffering for weeks and I couldn't feel an egg inside her vent.

I've included 3 pictures - both sides of the oversized something, and a cross-section of the left-side of the mass in picture #1.

There were two of these masses inside the cavity.

Can anybody tell me what I'm looking at?

It looks like lash eggs which are egg material produced in hens with salpingitis, an inflammation of the oviduct. It leads to internal laying and egg yolk peritonitis, and these are common in laying hens. Sorry for your loss.
 
Hens with those are usually condemned at butchering facilities, and since it involves infection in the reproductive tract, I wouldn't eat it. Others might disagree.
