The one Marans I have seems to be darker this season than the prior one(which was her first).

Ohh that's nice to hear! I'll have to see what pans out with my girls!

I just wish my blue egg was a bit bigger, I know the Marans will get bigger but I think the Araucana will stay quite small.

I know - actually I think that was a bit of a stuff up - I kind of thought Orpingtons and Faverolles laid white but they don't they are just much paler (cream almost) than the brown of my original 3 girls! I'm going to need to work out what I should look for adn get me some hatching eggs for the spring

No but different breeds lay different colors.

Sorry meant to reply to this - what puffypoo said - I have chosen my breeds based on calm temperament (I have a small human and am newish to chickens) and egg colour!

Got another Marans egg today - not sure if same pullet or the 2nd one. This egg is much more uniform and very dark - so happy! Todays on left yesterdays on right:
