Over build, over budget, build

Pics
I have watched a lot of videos and read a lot of posts I think im in track for a good coop. Learned so much over the last few months.

I have read double every thing when it comes to chickens 3 became 5. Four by eight foot became 6x12. 600$ became more lol.

I have no building back ground but am handy mostly working on cars and motorcycles before I made a planter and garden poting bench also still not finished lol. This is far from perfect but I think it's comming along nicely. I live in northern California and heat is a lot more of a concern then cold. Ventilation is very important to me and the girls.

The hen house is 4x6 and the run is/will be 12x6 (8x6 no its own) including the area under the hen house.

I have just been working in it off and on for the last few weeks but kicking it in to high gear wanting to get the hen house done this weekend. Need to move on to building the back yard fence next.

A few side notes its not staying on the blocks it was/is there to dry and stay dry for paint had a few wet days and don't want to paint wet wood. Will be using 1/2 pvc coated hardware cloth. Got a lot of inspiration from Carolina coops, I plan to do deep litter.

If you truly have "no building background," then you must be a prodigy! I think the coop looks great. My sister and I started building a coop last year and were rescued in our efforts by a neighbor who had a construction background. Yours looks every bit as good!

And, I totally agree with @woodworm's sentiment. My "little" coop project cost more than $800 last year. That seemed expensive for the three Bantams and five full-sized chickens it was supposed to house. HOWEVER, because of bullying issues, some of the original tenants had to be relocated.

The Taj Ma Coop, as it's known, only has four occupants -- two full-sized hens and a pair of Bantam Cochins. At more than $200 per chicken, it's truly far from low-cost housing.

Good luck with wrapping up the project!

Is that a Monitor Roof?

Excellent choice of design for excellent ventilation.
Yes it is a monitor roof, even though I just had to Google what that was lol. I saw this and liked the way it looked. Thought I could make the top part long openings with hardware cloth behind for safty and just make some slide in panels for the colder months and rainy times.

My coop will be the love child between the one I just posted and a Carolina coops, coop.

I think I kinda shot my self in the foot on over hangs. I built my coop 100% to my specs and the over hangs on the bottom were made so I won't hit my head and the top roof are made to match. I have planned to make it so I can close it up all the way so no biggy, but I will have it open a lot.

Also the run will not be a monitor roof but the angle and height will match the lower part of the roof on the hen house. Could have made the hen house and run 1 big structure but I will be moving at some point in the next few years lol(maybe 8)

Any way some pics of how far I got this morning before the heat got me.
