Over build, over budget, build

I am keeping the top monitor roof open but making panels that can slide in and also block it off if needed.

I got caught up chilling with my daughters last night and I guess I never posted the update I wrote yesterday.

I have been at it since 7 this morning about 6 hrs fighting 30+mph I finished priming the bottom/stand and then put the first real color the coop (gray on the stand). I then removed the blocks and decided I did not need to move it as it will be fine where it's at.

I started attaching the sidding and just kept going 4x8 sheets in the wind was a whole new type of work out. I did all my cuts on the extra size and will be running the router along the edges to clean them up latter.

I also added siding to the nesting box. Still need to make a front plat and dividers for the boxes I have space for 3 boxes a little extra for 5 girls but liked the look better than 2.

Don't worry I am cutting 2 very large windows on each side. I have the frame made up for one and still thinking how I want to do them for the side away from the coop/run door.

Some how I forgot a cross brace for the bottoms of the monitor roof vent area ill have to add some before I put on the sidding then cut out the centers for the bad weather covers.

The wind was drying out my paint tray faster than I could use it today by the time I was done it was a thin paste. Maybe I was going to slow lol.

I may go work on it a little more latter today we will have to see how I feel lol.

I'm a little worried it's going to be to dark, though it will have a white roof and a lot of ventilation.

I want to mount the litter doors so I can easily paint all around them and all edges with out moving them to get each edge(10 times lol).

Fedex dropped of my hardware cloth today!

Did a test fit of the litter doors will have to rehang them once I put trim around them. I found some corner molding at home depot that will work beautifully and save me a lot of time. I'll have to pick some more up next week.

Cut out the first window in the side now just debating if I want to do plexiglass or a solid panel. I may make a new thread asking for input. It will swing up and be held open by chain and/or wooden dowles (another idea stolen form Carolina coops).

Did just a super simple test of the roofing and I think it will work just fine the wooden closure straps when flipped upside down will make a very nice transition and fill the small gap.

They are calling for a 20% chance of rain @7 am if we don't have rain I hope to have it move in ready for the girls this weekend. They are ready to move out side! The added space will keep them happy for a week or so while I work on the run.

Well I got a lot done almost every thing is primed and most has been painted. I started some of the trim work around the 3 doors of the clean out doors.

Still kinda windy so I gave up on working on the roof for now. Would give a more thorough write up but had a very long day worked on it the whole day but it's almost done.

Note: roof will be corrugated white pvc not just the primed bored you see. The trim really helps clean it up and give it s pro look if you ask me.

I'm kinda beeing held up on needing to prime and paint a few things and we will have a chance of rain for a few days. I did what I could and started putting in the hardware cloth and latches on the litter door. As well as continued on a little trim work I could do I will also need to paint more trim and buy more trim before I'm done.

I also put on some rubber bumpers to stop wood on wood and paint on paint hitting when the bottom litter door is open using some rubber corks and large fender washers.

I thought the hardware cloth I got for the lid on my brooder box was fine(and it was) just normal 19 gauge 1/2. The stuff I got for the coop is so much better its 16 gauge and vinyl coated you can kinda see the thicker gauge in the picture a side view doesn't do any thing as the vinyl makes it way thicker the wire its self is what counts.

I finished trimming out the coop clean out doors and moved on to the the front window I still need to pick out some small trim to go around the plexy glass windows to clean them up. I also need to get a latch to keep it closed when it's cold or super windy.
I drilled a couple sets of holes and made some dowls to keep the window propped open. I think I may also use some chain and eye hooks to keep it held open all the way.

I got all of the monitor roof parts closed up with hardware cloth just need to get a ridge cap so I can seal up the top of the coop and move on to the lower parts of the roof.

My biggest tasks left are the lower roof, chicken door, and egg hutch/dividers door and a block them off tell the girls are ready to use them.

Also need to lay down the linoleum

This is IMPRESSIVE, are your roost bars in yet? How did you pick that color? I love that!
No I have been looking at the lumber I want for the roost bars I have seen 2x2 and 2x4 I was thinking a 2x3 and take the route with a round over bit to take off the edges then sand them so we have no splinter issues.

The color was one of the first ones me and my girlfriend both liked. I was going to go a lighter green but I wanted somthing that popped. I will be moving within the next few years or so. The property is a corner lot with kinda an open yard and I want a conversation peice seeing how you will be able to see it from the street.

Wild Pansy : Behr paint from home depot by the way. In hine sight maybe I should have done the hen house gray and the trim the blueish purple.

Personally I think the color is perfect because if you have neighbors talking about your coop you want it to be good things and that's a happy color. I'm really cheap though so my build is just lime wash until further notice. After doing that very cool and normal thing where you weigh out which lumber to get I just went with these rounded landscaping timbers (but I'm already thinking about adjusting my perches so don't take me too seriously) https://www.menards.com/main/buildi...99-c-12369.htm?tid=9164113889943612593&ipos=1

Have decided to wait to do the last big window tell after the run is done. They are 6 weeks and will move them from the brooder to the hen house keep them locked up for a couple days while I finish the run. The run should only take a couple days.

Any way today I worked on the hutch painted the door and hung it. Also made dividers and cut a cover plate just need to pick a size and shape for opening.

I started on the covers for the monitor roof as I'll have to have those on here in a couple days they are calling for rain. I drilled 2 holes and used to dowels give it an easy Anchor Point on the side I won't be able to reach once the runs has hatched. I'm still debating on how I want to attach him on the other end either some threaded inserts or maybe a barrel latch?

I put down some linoleum squares once on the sides I don't think we'll stay that had extra so why not.

I took a round over bit on the router to a 2x3 then super sanded it I may take a larger round over to it but idk roosting bars are one of the most highly debated things I have seen in a while so I split the difference on 2x4 and 2x2. I made the bars removable incase I need to clean them or get in there for something.

My 2 local stores ace and Tractor Supply I broke close today some plan on heading Home Depot up in the morning. Need a few things and I hope to have move in day tomorrow?! With a few small things to do after they are in.

Happy Easter!
