Thanks for the explanation, bunnylady. All I could think of was the birds were supposed to eat the skeeters, and my mind wasn't coming to terms with that. Testing the birds makes a ton more sense!

Me too, I thought they expected chickens to eat enough mosquitoes to be worthwhile(somehow). You know maybe chickeners should use that as a reason why everyone should be able to have a coop in their yard - natural mosquito control.

Yup..they're sentinels. We looked into it, made calls, talked to all kinds of people...and that's it. Nothing we can do.
Having chickens and loving and spoiling them like we do...this breaks my heart for them. My wife said they had that "please help us" look in their eyes and the pictures she took...it's heartbreaking, I'm telling you. West Nile is a concern, cases do pop up, testing is needed. Necessary evil.
Gonna go give my chickababies a nice juicey apple and hugs now....
