over-run by ticks....what to use

If you have NOT treated your yard for the ticks with a chemical you can go get some adult Guinea Fowl. I would get about 4 of them as this is what is usually takes to make the "Guinea uni mind" and TURN 'EM LOOSE.

They will roost in tree, make sure you have a tree that is tall enough for them to roost on at night.

You may loose a few over time due to predators.

My GF (Guinea Fowl) have doen such a good job at eating the ticks, they are wondering off further and further everyday from the barn. They do come to roost at night in the barn, but i see them literally take offf for the horse and cow pastures now when I open the barn in the morning.

I love my Guineas and the "french" Guineas are becoming my favorites. They are a bit harder to find, but if you can get your paws on them, buy them.

Get you some Guineas.

I've heard that ticks are around pine trees so if you have pine trees maybe get rid of some of those trees and plant other types of trees.

Ticks are mostly in the grass. My daughter brought home the first one 2 weeks ago from a track meet in town! After that, we've seen them all over the farm. We do not have pine trees out here, but did in town and didn't have any trouble w/ them unless we were fishing or visiting where we live now.

(don't know for sure if this is true, I've never lived in an area with a tick problem till I moved down here to Alabama summer of 2007. We have ticks here but I haven't seen but just a couple on my dogs and I do have some pine trees on my 8 acres but most of them are out on the back of my property. I do have about 10-15 big pine trees about 50 feet from one side of my house so I am going to try to keep an eye on that area in paticular and if I am noticing ticks there and can confirm if ticks like pine trees than some of those are gettin cut down.)

i dont really believe that, we are Over-Run with billions of ticks and not a pine tree to be seen anywhere!

What is the deal with ticks this year? I've never seen so many, so early in the warm weather season, in all my life. I bought some SentryHome yard and kennel spray to spray the area of my yard where the dogs go potty (chickens no where near that area.) We had a pretty cold winter for NC too so I thought that would have helped to kill ticks, but they're just awful already. What gives?

Honey please be careful and use some kind of repellant on yourself.
I have Chronic Lyme Disease from these freakin little bugs and when I am flaring it ruins my life. You do not want it!

I keep pulling them off my three year old and every time I find one on her I nearly burst into tears. I HATE them. I didn't want guineas because I heard they were loud but this has gotten out of hand!

What do you do with guineas in the winter?

I can't wait! I HATE those Asian Beatles more than I hate ticks! I'm so glad to know that chickens will eat them too. My pond fish won't even eat them. Yuck.....

We are overrun with ticks as well, no pines hardly at all, but woods all around us. I sure wish I could let my girls free range, but I can't do to hawks. That sure would be a nice way to get rid of the ticks. I'm either pulling them off of the kids or the animals!!
