Overrun with call ducks... pic.

Started out with 6 and now there are 16 of them and their house is just too crowded for sleeping in at night. It is approx. 4 ft. by 4 ft. and is a child's playhouse..

I sold and gave some away and ended up with them back and now I have way too many for their pond and barn... Not to mention I have to clean that pond more often.

Planning on getting them a much bigger house in next week or so....

The ones I gave away ended up in a bad situation and person was selling out all her chickens and ducks. So my calls came back and yes I bought them too...

And the ones that were sold the person came on hard times and asked me to take them back.. I felt they needed the money so I paid them back.. Yes I have a few extra hens as well as some gray males for sale...

do they lay eggs for hatching?
I want to let my daughter (she is 15) hatch a duck... so only need two or three eggs...

Yes they lay and will hatch their own if you let them. I also incubate them but it is hard to get the "buggers" to hatch on their own... Usually have to help them once they try to pip.

They have not started laying yet but when they do I will separate colors and sell eggs.


I have whites, snowys, grays, blue fawns, brown pied and bibbed....

Aren't call ducks the ones everyone complains are hard to breed/hatch? If they are, you must be doing a few things right!

We've had good luck incubator our calls for 3 weeks then putting them under my 8 month broody hens for the last 4 days! We have a 99% hatch rate under the hens. Even pipping all the way out. If we let them go 4 weeks in bator we have to help dang near every one out. Most don't make it.

We are trying eggperiment with eggs on metal rack and turning them driectly on rack, instead of in turners. I think they might have a hard time pipping completely (my theory) when they are in the nest they rub against each other maybe thinning the shells on the sides. I am testing this theory. But we have had them in turners and hand turned them and as long as we put them under my hens they all hatch, of course they are a couple that might not out of 12.

I am blessed with a Princess, silkie/black sexlink and Brahma Mama (mix brahma/game). Brahm gave us 4 daughters last year who are just as broody as she 8 months out of the year. Bless her.

That's alot of Call ducks! They are REALLY pretty! I once had 19 Call ducks.
