Hello BYC,
I was recently told that it was harmful when my BR's and RIR's laid oversized eggs. Is this true, and what should I do to to get them laying normally? If this is helpful, they lay an abnormal egg about every other day. Thanks

I don't think that sounds like a problem. It sounds more like you are just getting some nice jumbo eggs. Unless your hen is having trouble actually passing them then I don't see a problem.

OK then, I can assuredly eat my "mega" eggs without worrying about the hen's health now.

I did get a double yolker once, it was the size of three eggs. (only happened once, not on regular basis)

How old are your birds laying the 'oversized eggs'...... and what breed?
How long have they been laying?
Weighing and/or taking a pic with a quarter or dollar bill will help us see 'how' big.

-They are Rhode Island Red's, and Barred Rocks.
-They have been laying for almost 3 years, and are 31/2 years old.
- Here is a picture of one larger egg with an average "large brown egg"...

Thanks, hope it helps
