My drakes are ...um...er...rather overzealous...which is really hard on the girls. I am having to keep everyone separated right now. I thought this would just happen for a bit in the spring- how long does this last. Will they calm down enough to get out of jail and act responsible anytime soon? Ever? They are all about a year old. Bah! Boys!

Once they go into their moult, sexual activity will diminish. What is your ratio of ducks to drakes? Understand that if you have too many drakes, gang breeding especially in water can kill ducks. They are held under water and drown when being bred by multiple drakes.

How many drakes, how many ducks? I think things may calm down a little, but the recommended ratios I have seen are at least three females per male, up to six to one. And from what I read, some drakes are just overly aggressive.

I hope it all gets straightened out. I am glad you have them separated. Ducks can get hurt or worse.
