My cut was no worse, and my husband's was even smaller. The size of the cut is not the concern; the BACTERIA is the concern.

My GGfather died from tetanus poisoning. A cow smashed his foot and barely broke the skin. He refused to see a doctor (not sure they had a tetanus shot back then? Tetanus is commonly transmitted from injuries sustained in yard, garden and livestock areas. A tetanus shot is no biggie - just don't look when they give it to you.

If you are already exposed to tetanus a vaccine for it will not do anything except give your immune system more to work on. If you are exposed to tetanus you should be given a tetanus anti-toxin shot, not a vaccine. That said have fun finding the anti-toxin as most ERs don't even stock it.

When you get a wound you should bleed it to allow the oxygen rich blood to wash it out. Hydrogen peroxide is also good. Bacteria like tetanus do not like oxygen. The worst thing you can do is use a product like neosporian on a puncture or deep wound. This seals the wound and encourages anaerobic bacteria to grow.

Also you can no longer get the single dose tetanus vaccine. Now they push he dTap, Which has the most adverse reactions of the vaccines commonly given today.
