An owl attacked my ducks this morning and killed two of them. I saw two owls, so I know exactly what it was. One was in the pen and one was perched on the fence surrounding it. I lost a duck about a week ago (no head), and I thought the fenced area where they were sleeping was too low, so I put them in a much more secure (I thought) enclosure. Anyway, it was owls, which I had never thought of (first time duck owner here and naive I guess). It was horrible! Two of my remaining three ducks are fine, but the third was attacked and would probably have been killed if I hadn't happened upon the attack. She was bitten on the neck some and pretty scratched up on the neck as well. No injuries anywhere else that I can see or tell. I brought her in and washed her neck with soap and water. Then I swabbed it with Iodine. Finally, I put Neosporin (no pain relieves in it) on her neck. I left her in a Rubbermaid tub with food and water, which she has been eating and drinking. That was this morning. Tonight, her neck looks swollen and feels hot, though, so I think it's infected. She also has an eye that's been a bit foamy, but I'm not sure that is related. Do you know what I should do? If she were a chicken, I would probably give her Duramycin, but I didn't know if that was safe for ducks. Also, any idea on amount if that's what I should do? I also have Tylan 50 injectable.
