I’ve had 3 hens for a little over a year now and we just recently moved out on some land and an Owl has been watching my chickens. I do not currently have a rooster but one of my hens goes crazy when she spots him. I am scared to let them out of their run now. Any advice or tips on getting this owl to leave?! I do have 14 more hens and a rooster coming this weekend. Will the rooster solve my problem? Helppppp! Thanks in advance!

Owls are a problem day and night, and they are able to enter a coop or run through a tiny horizontal opening under the eaves. In that regard, they present more of a danger to chickens than hawks.

Owls hunt mainly mice and other tiny rodents. If you focus on keeping the mice population under control, this will greatly reduce the owl's food source. When the owl finds that mice are too few to feed from, especially raising owlets, it will move on.

No, roosters are not the same as a vicious guard dog. They will issue a warning to the hens to run to safety, but beyond that, they are as likely to be killed as hens are.
