Owls; A Gift in the Night

I 've posted these before but they deserve another look:

I couldn't believe how big the feet & talons were for such a young guy.....

I think a parent is back. Saw one the last couple of days.
The old nest tree is probably to close to the house & activity.

We have a pair of Barred Owls that visit us each summer. They usually show up around 8:00pm & give us quite the show!

The first year we lived in our house their was a third Barred Owl that the pair spent about a month chasing out of their territory. Every night the three of them would show up & we would gather up the cats & just watch from the front porch.

We have a pair of barred owls that live in a pine tree that is about 15 feet from our back deck. My husband was grilling out last Sunday, one of the owls flew in, very beautiful bird, and big! We have been hearing them at night, did not realize how close to the house that they were. I will keep our camera in the dining room and try to get a picture, but I can tell you that it is next to impossible for me!!

I have barred owls around here(and I also enjoy 'talking' with them!); I had a horned owl here once- it sat in a pine, in the rain(looking very unhappy)for a half-hour or so. I never saw it again, and I have never heard them call, so I think it must have been a transient. The barred owls are regulars, though.
