Oxine AH for COVID19/Coronavirus?

But if he is asymptomatic, we would have no idea that he has it.
That's the scariest thing......we all could be carrying/spreading it.
These half-@ssed masks everyone is sewing up could be giving a lot of false 'security'. SMH.
Hang tight, don't let the anxiety lower your immune system.

No offense taken, but I've spent about 30 hours making more than 100 of those triple-layer, half-assed masks with nonwoven polypropylene filters for appreciative medical personnel, friends, and family. Medical quality? No, but my country opted out of preparing for a pandemic, so this is what we've come to. Half-assed or not, it's better than nothing.

Agree about the anxiety comment. I am keeping busy, taking appropriate precautions and trying to help others. It does wonders for keeping anxiety at bay.

Be well everyone.

It's the gaps around the edges that concern me...and the possible face touching while adjusting. It's the amateur wearers that concern me more than the med pros.
False security may make folks think they are OK to go outside the isolation parameters.
I was trained in microbiology and worked in a biological clean room for a couple decades,
am also trained to look for failure points as an equipment designer. I see things.
No offense meant.

The gaps are a problem. My hopes are that people who are wearing them will read about them (via Johns Hopkins or CDC) and will know not to touch the mask part, know they are single-use, know generally how to use them safely.

Of course, that will not be the case for plenty of people, so that is problematic. I try to educate my non-medical people on how to wear them safely.

As far as people letting down their guard and not practicing social-distancing or proper hygiene because now they have a mask, well, you are right on that point. Not everyone has two brain cells to rub together.

So Revival said Oxine does kill Covid-19? I emailed them a few days ago but haven't seen a reply yet, sounds like I should have just called. I have used activated Oxine for years now on all things poultry (snack dishes, food dishes, waterers, incubators, etc.). I think activation only takes about 5 minutes, not 15, or that's what their website says anyway. I love the stuff.

With your background I'd like your input on this article- does it sound legit to you?

Well, I don't trust much regurgitated by dailymail, or most other 'news' agents.
I go to CDC or NIH websites to check facts.
But this, "They cautioned that there is no proof yet that either material effectively prevents healthy people from coronavirus " tells ya all you need to know.

The whole DIY mask thing is kinda like using DE to kill mites/lice,
it makes you feel better to use it(because everyone says it's great),
but is not very, if at all, effective.

I thought the recommendation was to prevent asymptomatic carriers from unwittingly passing it around, will masks not prevent transmission by those who have it?

If you can get them to wear them......they will help stop a direct hit to the mouth and nose and stop direct spray from a cough or sneeze.
But those gaps could let aerosolized nasties in and out.

Chlorine dioxide (the active ingredient in Oxine) is a far safer gas to inhale than chlorine when used at the same concentration levels.
Oxine is one of the chlorine dioxide (and related sodium chlorite products) on the EPA's List N of Disinfectants for Use Against SARS-CoV-2. There is information about using chlorine dioxide disinfectant against the coronavirus at www.coronaviruscd.org.
