Hmmm...I wonder if the
Walmart out in Airway Heights carries oyster shell. At $2 for a 5# that would save me a little bit. Currently paying about $4.50 for a 5# at Del's in Cheney. I'll have to check to see if they have it at Wally World the next time I'm out that way.
Grit? ppfft!! Not needed around here...except in the winter with several feet of snow on the ground. Then I keep it available to them. No matter how much one free ranges, if the ground is covered with several feet of snow, they can't get to it! So, a small 10# bag usually does them just fine for the worst of the winter months.
Two-way scratch (cracked corn and wheat) is running about $10.50 @ Del's for a 50# bag. If I happen to be in Spokane and am in need of two-way, Aslin-Finch has it for about a dollar less. But, I don't like the quality of their product. The corn isn't cracked small enough (barely cracked at all actually) and my girls tend to turn their beaks up at most of it. They'll pick out the best pieces of corn, all of the wheat, and scatter and waste the rest of it!
Not to mention the fact that the AF brand has very little wheat in it. Of course, the wheat is the girls favorite part! So, the Del's brand is a much better buy for us, even at the higher cost. No matter what the price, if the girls won't eat it, it's not a bargain.
