oyster shell $2 for a 5lbs bag at wal mart

I think grit is a waste of money If you have a run with dirt your chickens will get all the grit they need from the ground Ive had a 50lb bag since march and its 3/4 full once they went out i never gave it to them again, I do however give the chicks, chick grit, because they dont have access to gravel, I like giving them treats and watching being scared of it until they figure out its yummy

Our Walmarts do NOT sell anything chicken related. Don't sell horse related stuff either.

Ours either and we are in a pretty rural area...but it likes to pretend it is all citified. Kind of hard to pull that off when you see people on horseback pull up to the take out window at the pizza place! LOL

Anyway...we are getting a Big R so maybe I wont have to have my BYC friends on the coast ship me oyster shells anymore or have it special ordered from a feed store on the other end of town

Right across the street from my office and about 2 blocks from the Fountain Walmart

Big R will have a bit of an advantage...it is outside Fountain city limits so their tax rate will be 3% lower. It will be in a building that used to house an Alco store about 20 years ago.

Hmmm...I wonder if the Walmart out in Airway Heights carries oyster shell. At $2 for a 5# that would save me a little bit. Currently paying about $4.50 for a 5# at Del's in Cheney. I'll have to check to see if they have it at Wally World the next time I'm out that way.

Grit? ppfft!! Not needed around here...except in the winter with several feet of snow on the ground. Then I keep it available to them. No matter how much one free ranges, if the ground is covered with several feet of snow, they can't get to it! So, a small 10# bag usually does them just fine for the worst of the winter months.

Two-way scratch (cracked corn and wheat) is running about $10.50 @ Del's for a 50# bag. If I happen to be in Spokane and am in need of two-way, Aslin-Finch has it for about a dollar less. But, I don't like the quality of their product. The corn isn't cracked small enough (barely cracked at all actually) and my girls tend to turn their beaks up at most of it. They'll pick out the best pieces of corn, all of the wheat, and scatter and waste the rest of it!

Not to mention the fact that the AF brand has very little wheat in it. Of course, the wheat is the girls favorite part! So, the Del's brand is a much better buy for us, even at the higher cost. No matter what the price, if the girls won't eat it, it's not a bargain.
