My little less than a pound Serama has oyster shell that I ordered, but the individual pieces look too big! I got some before that were closer to fine grit size, but these pieces are about an 1/8 of an inch. Are they too big for her? I've noticed she ate the others a lot better. I'm afraid she won't get what she needs, and she's laying regularly.

If normal sized hens can gobble down acorns, I don't think you should be worried. I've been amazed at what they swallow.

I bought some normal grit and was surprised by the 1/2" long 1/4" square chunks, but put it out and it disappeared. 5 pounds gone a whole lot quicker than I thought. No, they didn't spread it out. I watched the smaller leghorns eat several chunks.

I had no idea hens could gobble down an acorn! Wow, I guess she'll be okay with the oyster shell then. I did try a hammer. No luck. And don't have a coffee grinder or food processor. (Threw it away because I never used it!) Thanks, now I feel better about it.
