Oyster Shells

What are people's opinions on Oyster shells? And if I use what is the easiest way to feed to them?

I just have the bottom of a plastic container screwed to the wall of each of my coops so they can eat it if they want it.
I can honestly say they rarley eat it. But its there and thats all that matters.

I have a heavy rubber bowl in the coop with oyster shell free choice......its there if they want it....some like a nibble once in awhile, some don't....

My buff orps don't seem to eat it much if at all. My guess is they're smart enough to figure if they need it or not. The eggs are good and they keep laying, so I guess I have it out, but don't really worry if it's not.

I must have strange chickens because mine gobble it up. I feed them layer mash, black oil sunflower seeds, scratch w/ the wheat kernels in it (I tell you all this so you will know they are not vitamin deficient), and treats and the oyster shell..these are all standard fare (they are penned, not free-range..in a dirt bottom coop) and they eat nearly all of what they are provided,, every day...now you know why I brag about the big, fat chickens all the time, loL! I have 12 hens and average 9 eggs a day. I throw the oyster shell and the BOS on the ground with the scratch, by the way, dont know if that makes a difference...

My chickens have access to grit, oyster shell, layer feed, mixed grains and water at all times.

Once the novelty of something new wears off they don't seem as attracted to it as in the begining.

At first they gobbled up everything, including the grit then they settled down and it is no big now. I have a 50lb bag that I purchased several months ago, I still have about 2/3 of it and the shell box is still fairly full right now.
