OK my roomat brought home some oysters and a lobster last night. I was not expecting it but made yummy backed oysters with them and he ate the lobster.
I collected all of the shells that still have a bit of muscle on them and threw them in the fridge. Can I give them to the chooks raw like that or should I cook them? I figured they might peck at the edible parts and then I could crush up the shells and spread them around as extra calcium as free choice (they do have crushed oyster shell in their feeder as well and I just got a big bag of the stuff so really dont need to make this a big production.)
I just figured I would put the raw left over shells in a bag smack them against the pavement or with a hammer a bit and then spread out in part of their free range area.
I also have the body part of the lobster with the roe and all that I figured I would cut in half and toss with the shells.
Is it ok to feed them it like this or do I run a risk with the raw shells and should I bake them in the oven first?
thanks
