Is it necessary for batams to have Oystershells available to them? What if the crushed OS's are to big for them to eat?

I would say YES, if they are laying hens they do need the calcium. I throw my oystershell out in the run in cup fulls at a time, there are pieces of varying size I'm sure your hens could find some the right size to eat. You could crush it up some - with a rolling pin, big glas bottle or something heavy to crush it up some more. A brick or rock would work I think.

As a replacement, you could keep your egg shells, bake them or zap them in the microwave - crush them with a rolling pin or something similar and feed that back to them.
