My favorite of our three kitties was at the emergency vet all day Monday, and today the labs came back. When he went in he was in respiratory distress, and they pulled 250ml of fluid out of his chest wall. The cytology and ultrasounds were so far inconclusive, but the only things that cause this kind of problem are very serious. They ruled out trauma, since he is an indoor, under the furniture kind of cat, and that leaves only heart disease and cancer. We'll be scheduling an ultrasound with a mobile specialist to hopefully get a more accurate diagnosis. I'm sort of hoping for heart disease, since it is more treatable, but I think my kitty's days are limited.

Poor P-kitty, I'm very sad.

So sorry your kitty is sick

I am so sorry to hear your kitty is sick. I will pray for good news and speedy recovery.

His name started out as Poof...named by the fosterer's kid at the shelter. My kids liked the name, dh and I did not. So like Puff Daddy, P-kitty got a new name.

He can be formally addressed as Mr. P.

I just looked up heart disease in cats, and it looks more and more like that is what he is suffering from. Evidently some cats are genetically predisposed to it, especially certain breeds. He is probably part Maine Coon, and they are one of the breeds with the predisposition.

He's a young kitty too. I can't remember if we got him when my sixth grader was in kinder or first, but he's no more than 7 years old. He was supposed to be the kiddo's cat, he hates the the kiddo.

I suspect P-kitty's time is very limited.
