My favorite of our three kitties was at the emergency vet all day Monday, and today the labs came back. When he went in he was in respiratory distress, and they pulled 250ml of fluid out of his chest wall. The cytology and ultrasounds were so far inconclusive, but the only things that cause this kind of problem are very serious. They ruled out trauma, since he is an indoor, under the furniture kind of cat, and that leaves only heart disease and cancer. We'll be scheduling an ultrasound with a mobile specialist to hopefully get a more accurate diagnosis. I'm sort of hoping for heart disease, since it is more treatable, but I think my kitty's days are limited.
Poor P-kitty, I'm very sad.
