Pacific Northwest Poultry Association double show, Salem, OR Oct 13-14, 2012

Contact the show chair, to be sure. Her name is Sher and her e-mail is: [email protected] She may already be at the fairgrounds, right now, getting set up. However, dry camping is dry camping, whether it be in a car, a 15' travel trailer, or a 45' Class A Motorhome. I would be willing to bet that the fee is $15, regardless of the 'type' of vehicle you are staying in. Sheila :)

What is the correct protocol for delivering already sold birds? I'm bringing up 8 birds that are already sold. Don't want to step on any toes and it's no big deal if I need to move off the fairgrounds to transfer them to the new owner.

I just dropped off my birds tonight, and ended up with a Serama.

Tons of traffic, too and from, so that added an extra hour.

Was wondering if I could get an idea of some breeds and prices of some of the 7-15ish week olds some of you might have at the show??? My 5 year old lost his Sicilian Buttercup yesterday to a predator and she was his baby! He's so heartbroken and none of our other 11 will do because they aren't his Buttercup! He loved her so much :( Hoping I can find him a new "baby" to bond with. I'm planning to fit in a trip down there tomorrow with the kids, just wanted to get an idea of what we could find. All of ours are between 7 and 15 weeks so I'm thinking getting one in that range might help the transition. Thank you in advance to anyone who has info for me!

When I went today, not everyone was there yet, and there wasn't much in the sale area. Definetly lot of Jesey Giants and a few Bantams. But no Buttercups, sorry. But not everyone was there so don't give up hope!

Thank you for the response! I'm not set on finding him a Buttercup, I just want him to find the one that makes him happy. It's been so hard watching him so hurt :( He was so proud to have his own chicken and he was so attached to her! We'll come down and see you all tomorrow and he will be on the hunt for his new baby :) If you see a little blonde boy on a mission checking out every sale bird there is and wanting to take every one of them home you'll know we made it ;)

I was there around 9PM and there where some chicks and young hens. Most chickens for sale that had prices seem to be in the $5.00 to $20.00 range some sold only in pairs. There were some show quality pairs (Jersey Giants) for up to $100.00. Still lots of empty cages and (so far) no Lavender Orpington. Also lots of ducks and geese but no prices on the cages yet.

I picked out my "mess less chickens" and left Rob a note that I would come for them today and check out the sale hens again

BTW, in case anyone doesn't want to eat at the concession there is a restaurant in the fair grounds, it's on the Silverton Road (north side) side close to the chicken building. There is also a Bridal show this weekend should any of you be planning a wedding.

Time for my update! We drove all night and got to Salem around 5:30 am and thought we were going to get mugged at the gas station near the fairgrounds. I waited for ages for my chicken guy to come that I had birds for. I gave him some sumatras, he gave me some leghorns (1 bantam, 1 LF), then I got a barred rock bantam for another project, picked up a couple guineas, and will be getting a faverolle tomorrow. I met with Jeanine, Christina Korfus, Rob, and a few other members that I forgot their names. I found that traffic here is just insane! Just trying to find our hotel, we got lost a couple times thanks to a lack of street signs due to construction. Sorry for the rant but I am going on a couple hours of sleep since yesterday morning at 5 am

Yep, the traffic around the fairgrounds is always crazy because the signs intentionally divert people from some of the surrounding neighborhoods.

If your hotel was on Market St, it's actually just a left out of the parking lot and the another left when you get to Market... The signs and the construction make me rant and I live here!

Glad to here that you got some chickens (and guineas). I didn't find a Lavender Orpington, I guess I have to wait to hatch some eggs in the spring. I did get five little "mess free" hens, including a lavender one, from Rob and will save up for one of his bells. Spent $10.00 bucks on raffel tickets and didn't win the bucket of dried grubs I was hoping for but I did get two big bags of locally sourced feed. There where some pretty amazing roosters at the show and my kids are alreay workoing on their dad to build a pond so they can get some of those tiny ducks!

PS : there is a thread called The road less traveled...back to good health! They have lice, mites, scale mites, worms, anemia, gleet, feather... on the emergencies and diseases forum that is really worth a read!

We are at the Days Inn, we went past the place a few times trying to figure out how to get into the parking lot. Having the pool to ourselves since it is empty here is pretty nice. I was also looking for a nice araucana rooster but maybe next time. In total, my family spent $60 on raffle tickets. I won the poultry reading basket thing and Christmas Pickles and my family won the Christmas basket, re-usable bags, plates, and some other random things. I wanted the feed so bad! We go through close to 50#'s of feed per day, one of these days we'll be able to get local (inland NW made/grown) feed in the bulk for a decent price.
I'll have to check out that thread later.

Well, I am off to bed. If any of you members see me tomorrow (pretty much the only bald guy at the whole show) come up and say "hi" before we all leave. Tomorrow I will be heading home and sleeping in since I wont have to work until noon on Monday!
