Packer the Pup and the Four Old Hens...

Meet Packer! He is an 8-week old chocolate labrador retriever and has just joined the family last night. It rained all day yesterday and again this morning so he does not know our four backyard hens exist and they are unaware of his arrival as well. That is all going to change when he gets to explore the backyard this afternoon and introduce himself to the hen house! I am sure there will be many funny stories to document, I hope you all follow along with our newest adventure, I am sure you can imagine who will be making the most noise regarding our newest member.

Packer is making himself at home and has been great so far. Yesterday was nicer out so he spent most of his time outside playing/running. He spotted our four hens near the garden and made a beeline for them. The girls were not amused and calmly hid behind some rose bushes until he lost interest, it was clear this new ball of fuzz was not going to interrupt their daily foraging through the yard! These pics are a before and after of his outdoor chicken chase...

Our hens are quick to remind our little kitty where he stands in the pecking order. Which is at the bottom. It's possible your chickens will take the upper hand while the pup is still small, and thus train him themselves. Good luck!
