And, these sort of people aren't new to the game. If she's trying to rip you off, I can almost guarantee she's done something similar before. If you contact the police, they may know her very well. If that's the case, then your word is worth a heck of a lot more than hers.

The police won't do anything, this is a civil matter not a criminal one. Talk to one of your lawyer friends because if she doesn't produce the goats or your money back, your course of action will be to file against her in small claims court. Also, you paid cash and didn't get a reciept, so it's gonna be your word against hers. Always pay with a check or use paypal for any sums larger than $25 for people you don't know. This gives you clear documented evidence and the ability to cancel a check or file a paypal grievance.

You do have a witness, your wife....so that should be sufficent enough for the cops to make a visit.
A formal letter from the lawyer is not a bad idea. Keep track of all phone calls and record all calls no matter how insignificant it may be.

They may be more helpful down there, but it is not their job. Sportsterjeep (my hubby) was a Deputy Sheriff, so he knows what he is talking about. It is a he said-she said situation for the judge to decide who is in the right. Go immediatly to the Magistrate and file a civil complaint again her. I would also post an ad (same place that you posted your goat ad) stating that you are looking for her and to please contact you ASAP. If she found your 1st goat ad, she should see this one. Well, we hope that she will. If she is a scammer, she will never call you back. This will be more documentation that you tried to contact her.
