I am about to start on a chicken coup and I've noticed many people leave the inside of the coup unfinished. I was thinking that painting the inside would make it easier to clean. Will the paint hurt the chickens.

Quite safe once the fumes have dissipated.

I am a big fan of painting the interior, including the floor if it's plywood. (Prime well first; then semigloss paint is the best IMO, mistints are fine). It really does make it a lot easier to clean.

Of course it is not like your chickens will curl up and die if you *don't* paint

Good luck, have fun,

Just don't paint it RED inside. It made them fight more and were edgy:mad:. So I painted it a pale yellow now they are calmer and friendlier:hugs. Call me crazy but color does make a difference.

Also make sure it is fume free when you put your little chicks in.

Water based paint when applied in warm weather dries very fast without the strong odor of an oil based paint. Just make sure it isn't Chinese paint!! (toxins)
