Last week we let the chickens join our family. I am currently working on building a coop, the coop itself is about 10’ wide by 7’ deep, and 6’ tall. The interior portion of the coop will accompany a 4’7 portion of the build. The interior will have 2x4 studs with insulation in between, and a thin sheet of OSB plywood to prevent the birds from seeing it. The bottom will be lined with linoleum flooring, for easier cleaning.
The outside will have 1”x 6” real wood siding. The cracks will be filled with caulk, and then painted. Which leads to my question. What type of paint? Menards has a cheap, water resistant, oil based red paint. Will that be ok?

Also, what does everyone recommend to do with the interior? It would be nice to paint, but I don’t want the birds picking at it either.
I’ll be sure to post plenty of pictures of the coop as its in progress or once its finished. Hoping to get everything but the roof done today.

Thanks

It's not a necessity to paint the inside but I did, I think it makes it look cleaner and nicer, I went with semi gloss white in latex because it cleans up easy with water, if you have gone through the effort of building something nice I think it's worth the little extra to finish it off.
