painting the coop

I know the position may look a little odd but the side yard in the back of the pic is going to be turned in to a huge garden in the spring. I am done mowing grass I rather have a huge garden that will supply food for my family

i just checked out your coop you built for school... wow! that must have been a big project with all those pallets. i built a small 3'x3' compost bin and that was hell. Just trying to pull apart the pallets was a challange. I broke more slats than i slavaged. but now reading your story. I think it would have been a much better way to go about that project. I just used a hammer and pry par

Your coop looks AWESOME!! Pat yourself on the back, it's not as easy as it looks to build one, yours looks very professional! Can't wait to see it finished!

It was suprizingly hard. I do building maintnance and the tools needed for project were not new to me, but it took longer than i thought. I cant wait to finish it. I just want to paint it and get all the small stuff compleat. I love when a project is done and you can stand back and look at it and say "I built that". such a good feeling

Cutting the nails between the runners and the slats is deff the way to go; I built my first coop out of pallets and tried to pull the slats off with a prybar and hammer, I think I wasted more wood than I used. Once I figgured this out, I dont want to make anything not out of pallets, lol. I actually made a few compost bins/compost bins with pallet wood, I'll try to post a shot of them in a bit. You can save money with oops paint. Most of the time you can mix it and come up with a khaki or sometimes you find some nice colors.

My husband and I use pallets all the time. It does take time to take the pallets apart and Andy even straightens the nails and reuses them. We hammer the wood from the backside and then pull from the front with the claw part of the hammer. You till not break so many boards.
