Painting Tips

Done priming, will begin painting this weekend. I am doing a soft yellow color with white trim.
I do not do a lot of painting and was wondering which would be easier. To paint the trim(white) then paint the main body areas(yellow) or vise versa.
At first I thought trim last, but being that that is more detailed work and harder to be precise, I though maybe do that first, then the main areas.
That way if I messed up any trim painting onto the main areas, I could cover it up with the yellow...
Thoughts?

if you trim first and roll the walls/main areas after you will get many speckles on the trim
if you wont mind the yellow freckles on the white then by all means....

I just painted my son's room. I painted the trim first for the reasons you did. (we did off white trim and dark blue walls) What you do is paint the trim and then CUT IN using a paintbrush painting all around the trim about 4-5 inches out from where the trim meets the wall. This will prevent splatters like the previous poster said. Cut in one wall at a time (or only enough that the cut in part is still wet when you meet it with the roller) This will make for nice edges. We don't have any freckles!

I painted my son's room about 10 times due to wrong gloss and mis-tinting by the store. Believe me, I learned a LOT about painting! Number one is buy a good brush. An angled one about 2 inches is good. This seriously makes a HUGE difference. I don't know what your trim is like but you can always surround the trim with painters tape once it has been painted. That way you don't have to be too careful with the yellow.

Post the finished product! We have to prime/paint soon too. I have had about enough of painting! The light yellow sounds really nice. The worst part for me is picking the colors. A painter is painting our home's exterior right now and we have an old victorian farmhouse. I came home last night and he had painted all the porch trim the wrong color. I almost had a heart attack. He's going to fix it.

Mine is a fairly small coop, so I won't be using a roller - should be freckle free

I was just thinking. The guy doing our house did the walls first and then the trim. He got a lot of the house color on the trim but the colors aren't too different so it was covered up. I don't think it matters all that much! Do get a good brush though. It makes a huge difference in the quality of the paint job.

So true - a good brush will make the world of difference.

When I paint, I like to do the walls first, then the trim. Then if I get a little messy with the trim, I use a really small paintbrush and touch up the edges. But I'm a little goofy about things like that. Honestly, it's a chicken coop. Whatever you do will be great -- and you'll be really glad to have paint in your interior!
