I need some advice. One of my girls, her name is Pearle she is a white leghorn, has a very pale comb all of the sudden. She seems healthy otherwise, maybe a little bit skinny too but she's alway been on the small side. She is a year old and laying daily. Eating and pooping normal. Any advice? Thanks in advance chicken family. I will ad that she recently lost her best friend to a hawk,

like I said tho she is laying normally every day, even the day after the predictor incident...the girl is regular. Attached is an older picture of Pearle.

Does her comb change from pale to red and back at different times? Can you check her skin for evidence of mites or lice under her vent and wings, and around her neck? Some mites will only come on the chickens at night, so check with a flashlight. Is she getting close to her yearly molt or starting to lose feathers? How do her droppings look?

Like Eggcessive said, she may have mites, my Cream Legged Bar had almost the same problem, but not... her face would turn either red or pale when she was stressed

I know, it sounds weird but like you said, she was healthy otherwise. My Mille Fleur hen has a pale comb, but she is healthy. I'm not an expert on this, but I would say there's nothing to worry about

If you read up on egg layers most folks will say that this is also a sign that she is currently a good egg layer! Good egg layers have a bleached comb and face and shanks. If she is giving you a healthy egg once a day and she shows no other signs of illness then she is just probably a healthy fertile bird and good layer!
