This Wyandotte is about a year old laid this morning and has been out free ranging all day. I did notice she looked pale off and on. Then she moves around and it turns bright red again, I notice some white discharge on their butts today so I started treating for vent gleet. (Did my spring clean out)

Combs can change color with temperature, hormones, and general agitation. A few of mine will go fire-engine red when they're having a pecking order standoff, then settle back down to a pale pink (even with active laying).

What's the temp like where you are? How else does she seem "off" to you? You're also welcome to post pictures of her vent and the discharge. Someone should be able to help confirm if it's looking like vent gleet.

Thank you for the info! She really doesn’t seem off, she’s laying and announcing her egg🤣 just thought the coloring changing was weird. I did clean their booties and I did notice a foul smell and white discharge for one of the other chickens. We have had heavy rain and our temperature have gone from 78-25 degrees in the last few days. I’ve kept the run as dry as possible with the rain. I have not noticed any signs of mites when checking them.

Sorry, I think I misread the on/off! I have mush for brains lately. 😣

This is more concerning, so I'm glad you started treating them. I tend to see white discharge when my hens start laying, but there's never a foul smell to it.

It’s all good I have mush brain days too! It actually wasn’t her butt that was stinky butt my other hens. Idk I just figured cleaning them up and getting the crusty gunk off. If anything I think it just started I’m not sure this is my first time having chickens! I’m just trying to learn as much and do it right.

I clean messy bums ASAP, mostly because I'm paranoid of fly strike! If one has a particularly fluffy behind, I'll even trim the downy feathers below the vent (less surface area for poop to cling to).

Hope your girl responds well to treatment. Follow up anytime. I'm not particularly helpful, but I can tag someone who is! 😁
