Pale comb - what does it mean

I have a year old isa brown with the same problem. She also never goes near the other chickens or wants to move around. She was fine until a few months ago though! I can't figure out what it is:(

Since you've posted in an old thread, many people who could possibly help you won't be seeing your post.

To get the most help possible, I would suggest you start a new thread in this area:

And please try to answer as many questions as you can out of this:
Quote:
13) When was the bird last wormed, if ever?
14) Has the comb, wattles and/or face changed color?
15) Has anything changed in the environment, diet, or conditions in the last month or so?

(These are the sort of questions people need to ask in order to get an idea of what's wrong, so it just saves time and hopefully helps get help for your chook sooner if you can provide as much in the way of info as possible to start with).

Best wishes.

If he were mine, I would start feeding him a 30% gamebird or turkey crumble *and* I'd de-worm him with fenbendazole 10% (Safeguard or Panacur, liquid or paste) even if he was molting and take the risk that his feathers might look funny until his next molt. You can get the wormer at most feed stores, it's in the cattle, goat and horse sections.
I have the same problem with some of my chickens, and I am wonder how much women do you give them? Also I have never de wormed any of my chickens should I de worm even the ones that do not have a pale comb? I have one more question could having worms prevent them from laying eggs? Thank you :)

My Hen went broody and now she is done finally after almost two months, for the last few weeks she was getting out more and eating more
now today she was out all day eating dust bathing, etc, but I noticed that her comb is a little pale she looks good otherwise, I think it was probably from being broody, so I'm giving her extra vitamins with their food, she went broody last year too, and she bounced back,
is there anything else to feed her to give her what she has lacked from being broody?

I have 3 black copper marans. One has a pale white comb and moves very slow. The other ones have a bright red comb. Any ideas what could it be and what to do about it?

How old is she? Is she laying eggs? Mite infestation can cause anemia and even death. Some mites only come out after dark, so checking at night with a flashlight may help. Chickens who are not laying or who are molting will tend to have pale combs, but she is pretty pale. Worms could also be another culprit. So, I would worm her with Valbazen or SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer, and give her some Poultry Nutri-Drench or Poultry Cell vitamins with minerals 3 ml daily by mouth. Those also supply iron.

I had a hen with the scabby areas and it apparently was basically "chicken pox". I added vitamins to her water and gave her slightly higher protein in her feed and she has gotten over it. she had them on her legs and comb and she was under the weather. I believe it is caused by mosquitoes. I learned about this on this site.
