My 3 chickens are molting. They haven't laid an egg in a few weeks. I've noticed their combs have gone from bright red to very pale. Is this normal for a molting chicken? Will their combs turn red again once the molt is complete?

Thanks

Yes chickens out of lay will have paler combs than when they are producing. They should return to normal once they are done molting. :)

Molting causes most chickens to stop laying for 1-2 months. They may have a paler smaller comb, but not in every case. Some of my molting hens keep the red combs. It can help to increase the protein in their diet from 16% up to 20-22% during molting. Flock raiser or game bird starter can be used. They frequently do not like being handling, may be more aloof, less active, and eat less.
