What should I deworm this 1.5 year old OEGB with? Valbazen? He weighs no more than 2 pounds. Free range. No external parasites seen. There is no local vet that sees chickens.

Can you get some photos of his poop too please?

You can use Valbazen to de-worm him. Dose is 0.08ml per pound of weight given orally once, then repeat in 10 days.

Thanks so much for your reply. I have him overnight in the ICU for observation right now so getting pictures of his droppings should be an easy thing tomorrow

Here we go. Was all in one piece but it broke when I picked it up. I did break up the pieces even more to see if anything was inside that wasn’t showing on the outside-didn’t see anything that stood out to me.

What do you feed?

It looks pretty normal, if not a bit dry, but you know chickens the poop can vary.
Do you notice if he's straining to poop?

I think in addition to deworming him, I would direct dose him with poultry vitamins. Personally, I like Poultry Cell to direct dose birds. 1cc per 3 pounds of weight given orally once a day. Trying to think how long to give them. For me, I usually only give like 3 days in a row. Access the bird and if need be give every other day for a few days. Like anything you can overdo vitamins but he may benefit. He's so pale, so the vitamins may help build him up a bit.
You can still use the Valbazen with the vitamins no worries there.

I feed a variety of things because I have a free range mixed flock of chickens and ducks. Layer pellets, layer and all flock crumbles, game bird feed, rooster feed. No junk food. Occasional fresh fruits as treats.

I haven’t noticed him straining to poop. I was just looking closer at the pictures of his droppings and see these white hairs? There are no cats or dogs or any other domestic animals here that have light hair like that. Could be possum or rabbit? I don’t know what worms look like or don’t look like or if they can look like hairs…what do you think?

Regardless, I gave him the Valbazen today and have him in a secure, sheltered area so he can relax while rebuilding his strength. I got some livestock vitamin powder today and mixed up a weak solution for him to drink as well as have plain water available to him. I’ll look into getting some Poultry Cell.

Hard to tell what those white things are - could be fibrous plant material. If it is hair...then it could be from a number of animals I suppose...Rabbit, Possum, Rat, Mouse, Squirrel, etc.

Most of the time you will not see worms in poop unless there's a severe roundworm infestation. But that's not worms in the photo.

Great. Thanks again for all the advice. I’ll update my post as things progress. Take care now!

I’m sad to report that my little guy passed away tonight. He had been pale for a while and the past week I noticed him going steadily downhill. I see now that I waited far too long to address whatever was going on with him. He was a lovable chicken and will be missed.
