Pallet coop plans on MPC

Looked at the plan site, and it seems the pallets have to first be dismantled, which is a gnarly job if you are trying to salvage the wood without damaging/splitting it. I would design one that uses them intact if possible. Otherwise go dumpster-diving at construction/remodeling sites and be sure to tell foreman what you are looking for. In remodeling they often toss out good stuff that has nails in it so is too time consuming to recycle. Plus, they do not like to ruin a good saw blade hitting undetected nails and screws.

Mechanical companies that do HVAC should have plenty of large crate material on hand. (providing that they've just finished an install)
Crating is usually in better shape than pallets.

Just a side note on the plans from MPC...the coop is 4'x4', it will hold 4 chickens, not the 6-8 they claim.

I found pallet crates at the local discount store for free as well as an unlimited supply of pallets from the local feed store (or rather their distribution center a few miles down the road). I found both on Craiglist in the "free" section! With the finding of the crates, 90% of the work is already done for me, so long as I don't mind the coop being square.

I saw that plan when I was looking for ideas for mine. I did not get them but stared at my four pallets that I had for a few days before I started to pull them apart. That was a pain in the butt!!! But I am happy about my little coop that I made with pallet wood ,some ceder shingles off the well cover we tore down and a left over piece of fiberglass sheeting from our greenhouse.
