Pallet coop project, suggestions and opinions welcome! update p.3

I've been also contemplating insulation options.

Stacked strawbales can be stacked around the exterior. Then used as mulch when they're spent. They will harbor bacterior etc. when wet-- maybe smell a bit!

We have 3 fiber goats and 2 big llamas which I've been saving the wool from when we shear.
Apparently if I card it after soaking it in borox (to keep away bugs) and then evenly stretch it over construction paper with a spray adhesive to adhere, the paper sheets can be hung between the wood.
Since I have the stuff I figure I might as well give it a shot.

Your construction is really coming along great btw!

I have been very remiss in continuing to post my progress here. I picked up the hubby and daughter June 1st from their vacation and we have gone NON-STOP since!
There is good progress, actually we're almost done. I'm uploading pics now, but I can't post because it's "family time" and I've gotta log off. Will post soon. Looking forward to sharing what I ended up doing for insulation and such. I've been able to keep it about 80% recycled.
Schellie69- I want to see your progress too!

Amazing! Nice job. I love those pallet coops. Although I have thought of doing this, I just don't know if I have the carpentry knowhow... Inspired though. Awesome coops!

Old Newspaper & other paper scraps were Very common insulators in old houses... Our house was built in 1905 and insulated with paper scrap. We had a house fire about 10 years ago and the fire got into the upstairs walls and burnt up all the old insulation material within seconds. Thankfully it didn't burn through any other walls but got the insides hot enough to melt anything plastic inside the bedrooms!

I would vote against paper insulation but i have tried to burn straw in the past (safety test, lol) and i would say that'd be an alright insulator if you're trying to save money. The fiber on construction paper sounds like a really cool idea though & totally worth a try!
