Sounds like a scam to me, or at least possibly unethical sounds like the chickens where not possibly not old enough to lay and "renting" an animal? If they out right sold the coops and offered to sell the hens separately then I would think otherwise. Gmen, it does look like a good size for re-purposed boards to turn into a small hen house/tractor, for either summertime or warm climate areas. If you could find a fencing company or lumbar yard/home type center that would sell you the ends of the rolls of fence for a lower price (if they cut to order) that would help out too.

Unethical? People who want a horse but for whatever reason are not ready to own one can rent/lease one - happens all the time. In face they are rented by the hour every day.
Wouldn't it be a MUCH better idea for people to be able to 'rent' a dog for a month or two before buying one? They would know exactly what they're getting into before hand and the eventual puppy/dog would be the one benefiting from it.
Personally I wanted chickens for about a decade before I finally got them. What was holding me back? No coop. That was it. I didn't have a coop and had no idea how to build one. If this had been an option for me, I would have probably gotten over my fear and uncertainties many years ago.
I think it's a brilliant idea and a great way for someone who is able to toss together a few tractors to make a little extra money.

I meant unethical as in someone who hasn't a clue how to take care of them "renting" them. Horses as another poster suggested are rented, where I know they rent horses at parks it's like a cab ride you pay to ride the thing through a state or federal park for a ride and in all intents and purposes you are paying a taxi with 4 feet. And for the renting of dogs I have never heard of being able to rent a dog, but I do know many shelters allow people to provide foster homes for dogs and cats to prevent animals being put down. Someone could easily foster a pet and the adopt them.

Any tips on taking pallets apart? My original plan was to build my coop with pallet wood but I could not for the life of me get the nails to give up. The wood actually started to splinter before any nails were loosened. The ones I got were from a big auto parts distributor, does that mean they were maybe just reinforced or something? Any tips would be appreciated.
