Hi. We got 6 straight run chicks about 3 weeks ago. My husband got them for eggs/pet type but I have never had them before so have no knowledge and he is working for two weeks out of state. They did not tell us an age but from looking at pictures and charts they may have been two weeks at the time. We have them outside in a covered coop house with an opening to go down into the coop fenced in. One particular chick has been very uninterested in being with the others for long periods of time except when they all sleep . She (or he I can’t tell what sex they are yet ) will go out and peck around but she is always the first one back in and then lays down. She is panting a lot and today I thought I saw liquid come out of her mouth about 40 seconds after drinking . She will open her mouth like she is trying to yawn or crow sometimes but today the mouth is just remaining open. It is the first hot day in WVa that we have had since we got them ,about 75 degrees . I turned off all the heating lamps and lights. I also added a large glass pan with about an inch of water down in the large part of the outside fenced in coop so they could maybe splash or get their feet wet . She didn’t but some of the others did . I’m sorry this is so long lol the main point is she is panting and disinterested and I’m not sure if something is wrong bc she she’s okay sometimes but then lazy or if she may just be hot? Any ideas or suggestions would be great. Thank you :)

Hi there, sorry no one was able to respond, how is your chick doing?
Hi thanks for asking! I looked thru some of the other threads for some answers . Seems like she is just getting over heated easily she is totally fine at night and just lazy in the afternoons I did a couple extra things I found to try to keep her cooler. ☺️

That's usually the cause, glad to hear she is better. Have a wonderful day!
