my 7/8 week silkie has been constantly panting or opening her mouth with her tongue moving up and down. i brought her inside and put the fan on, also giving her some water. she was PARCHED. she drank so much water yet was still panting. i gave her some food and she ate as normal. her poop is a bit on the drier side but nothing abnormal. it is not hot at all, so i wonder why she even started to pant in the first place. i raise her with a 7 week cochin who i have seen to have quite a raspy voice and a slight wheeze. HELP! im very worried!!

Can you post a video? Surprisingly, the WAY they are panting/sneezing helps determine the problem. Isolate them from the other chickens to prevent them from catching it. It sounds like a respiratory illness.

So here's the thing. There are several different respiratory diseases chickens can get, and often their symptoms are the same. Gasping, discharge of booger, runny poop, etc. So it's very difficult to pinpoint the illness. What's easier to do is to rule out any illness they could not have. For example, are they stretching their necks forwards or upwards when they pant? If not, then gapeworm is out of the question. Then you move on to the next one. Is their coop clean and dry? No mold or dampness? Then it's not Mycoplasma either. Do you see what I mean? Often there isn't any real treatment you can give them other than preventative measures and being lucky. Give them TLC. If they do have infectious bronchitis (which I suspect not because then all of them would most likely have it) , then there still isn't really any treatment. But posting a video and watching for more specific symptoms will help rule out a few more.

i have given them some electrolytes and i plan in giving them that for 1 or 2 days. will apple cider vinegar help anything? I’ve heard it is very good but not in respiratory illnesses
