I have chickens that are 5 weeks. I’ve been putting them outside for about a day now just during the day so it doesn’t get to cold on them it’s about 82 degrees here so I’m the sun maybe a little hotter. I went outside to check on them and the are all laying down panting with their mouths wide open! I would say it’s not very hot for them at their age.. should I bring them inside? they have shade on one side and straight sun in the other! They have icy cold water!! I have 2 adult chickens and they never did this..
they are in a huge wire dog crate with little wind blowing!

I'd move them into shade. If it's 82° then it's 92° in the sun. Add in the humidity and it's even hotter. If you keep them inside & just put them out during the day depending upon your inside temperature it's a vast difference outside.

I live in south Texas where the heat index can get over 100 due to the humidity. When I isolated momma and her brood in the coop (which is shaded but it can still get pretty hot) I put in a clip-on fan I bought from Wal-Mart. I also changed their water twice daily because they kept kicking dirt in it. :hmm

The chicks are big enough now (3 months old) so I let have them let them out. 20200903_144405.jpg
