Dona Worry
Crowing
Alright, I am the most ridiculous person to have to say this, but no one else has and SOMEONE'S gotta. . .
Look, GMO food isn't bad for you. It's not poison, you don't need to panic and throw it out. There zero difference between eating a GMO potato and an organic one.
Where the difference is, is the methods used to grow it, and either you believe in the methods or you don't.
I believe in biodiversity. I believe a strong soil is one that has plenty of native plant. People mock organic crops for being weedy--that's not a flaw, it's a strength! Herbicides destroy soil health and fertility. Not from adding chemicals, but by killing plant life.
Pesticides are neurotoxins. Due to application timing and harvest methods, the consumer doesn't have to deal with any effects of that, but the people who DO are disproportionately Hispanic immigrants, often undocumented. The chemicals they apply and then work in travel home on their clothes, to their children.
There is a HUGE rise in learning disabilities and disorders on the autism spectrum in the children of migrant workers, but for some reason this is only ever talked about in the context of how much it costs the schools to deal with these kids.
There is a HUMAN cost to pesticides, but for some reason a dead butterfly is more traumatic to the average consumer than a child with permanent brain damage, so that's what people like to talk about.
I am obviously biased. I obviously believe strongly in my chosen system of production.
But all that said and done. . . If you already bought the food, it won't kill you, and you don't need to throw it out.
